Fair fire ground depiction?

 
The photo below is apparently a still from the movie Ladder 49 staring John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix. The set below has many flaws. If this were a real emergency scene what would be different?

It seems to me that the apparatus is parked directly in front of the building. Real life the apparatus would be parked at the corners of the structure, the strongest part. Just my first impression, though.
