More on Lake Tahoe Angora Fire

Tahoe Daily Tribune reporter Susan Wood describes her close encounter with the Angora fire.

(Editorial note; isn't it about time newspapers begin blogs for major local events?)

Isn't it about time someone asks the important question of why we aren't using our local firefighters on this distasterous fire? Why are they "shipping" in firefighters from all over CA. when local resources are right here in this valley? Gov't red tape is not worth the price of life and property. I say use what's here fist you can trade it out later!

I can't answer that. I remember a fire in the Santa Cruz mountains in 1986 (the big one), right in my childhood backyard and my crew was kept in camp to watch our side of the County. I never felt such frustration but if a fire blew up on our mountain me and my crew were IT!
Also on these larger incidents the call goes out quickly due to driving time considerations. In the case of CDF they might have strike teams assembling as far away as San Luis Obispo County, a good eight hours away.
Good luck, I hope you get the call.
