Gap Fire: 5,400 Acres, Three Active Fire Fronts

Sundowner winds pushed the Gap Fire into the perimeter of Goleta overnight. Structures were destroyed however the official incident report does not offer numbers. Damage assessment will take place this morning and will be reflected in the evening report.

The fire grew to 5,400 acres overnight with containment estimated at 10%.

1,072 firefighters are assigned to the fire along with 53 fire engines, 5 dozers and 7 hand crews. This fire is the top priority for the state fire officals due to the threat to structures. 2,600 residences are threatened by the Gap Fire.

I would expect to see the DC-10 Supertanker, Tanker 910 over the fire later this morning. Local coverage has been surprisingly sparse. The community knows how to rally to a fire, recall last year the Zaca Fire ate 240,000 acres of forest and wilderness just over the hills north of Santa Barbara.
