Three Oakland Police Officers Killed Today
Oakland Police Department lost three sergeants today in two separate (but related) gun battles.
The Oakland Tribune has details of the tragedy here.
The three slain sergeants have been identified as Erv Romans, Dan Sakai and Mark Dunakin. A fourth officer was shot and is in critical condition. The fourth officer is John Hege, age 41.
All our prayers to Officer Hege.
God rest the souls of the dead officers. May their families find peace in time.
Update: Officer John Hege has died.

OAKLAND IS A CITY LOADED WITH COP HATERS MURDERS AND THUGS .....AND SCUM....WHEN THE SO CALLED SOCIAL ACTIVIST BURN DOWN YOUR CITY ....ENJOY THE FIRES .....BRING MARSHMELLOW AND HOT DOGS AND DONT FORGET THE RIBS....ENJOY THE BRIGHT LIGHTS OF THE GOLW OF YOUR CITY BURNING .....YOU CITIZENS OF OAKLAND BETTER WAKE UP AND START TO SUPPORT YOUR POLICE FORCE THEY ARE WHAT MAKES THIS COUNTRY WORK......WITHOUT THEM....ANARCHY WILL RULE AND YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT....IF YOU KEEP THE DONT SNITCH MENTALITY .....YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU DESERVE
Well Mr. Anon, you are correct Oakland is full of haters. As a matter of fact I had to delete two comments from cop haters that expressed delight the hero cops were shot.
I lived on the edge of Oakland from age 12 to 15 and used to ride the rapid transit from my home in San Leandro to the Port Of Oakland every weekend to get to Sea Scout meetings. Right down East 13th Street. I was the biggest Oakland A's fan and loved the Raiders back then too.
Even then the hatred towards cops was evident but at least the hate was tempered.
I doubt a white boy minding his own business could have the run of the city now like I did back then.
Truthfully the city should be patrolled by specially trained National Guard units.
All in all it's a failed community.

what i'm asking is how one shooter takes out 4 trained men in protective gear ? in Oakland cal. i would assume bullet proof vests are standard issue... as i understand it the first 2 were on cycles so i would assume it was close range head shots... but then the last 2 were swat team in full gear and their dead as well... the foto posted on yahoo shows a swat team member using his helmet to site his rifle leaving his head exposed to fire... the second 2 officers were hit by assualt rifle fire and perhaps those rounds will penetrate standard issue protective gear... in all a very bad day for the oakland PD
so again... how does one man take out 4 of Oaklands best outfitted, best trained men ? it just doesn't sound right...

Tough to second guess. My initial thought was SWAT was anxious to get this SOB quickly.
Surely the reviews will paint the full picture.
Surely the reviews will paint the full picture.
it is my understanding that as of a couple of years ago it became standard operating procedure for the first responders to engage the shooter before back has arrived in order to take him out quickly (if possible) and to keep the shooter from taking civilian life... all the best to there fellow officers and the familys involved
This is a tragic story...Hate to something like this happen to the individuals who are attempting to make my city safe.. I have been a resident of (mostly west) oakland since I was 12 years old. And you are right that the city is full of police haters, mostly unwarrented. But lets not discount those who have substantial reason to be sceptical of the people who police thier city and thier motives for doing such. In my years in oakland I have seen or heard of at least 3 unarmed teens being shot by police, and seen countless unwarrented beatings...I appreciate the policec and everything they do in my city but sometimes they go wayyyyy to far...alot of them have authority complexes and dont simply understand how to talk to people, instead of scolding them about how they are in the wrong. Not to mention they live miles away from the indivuidals they are supposed to serve and protect (cant really blame them). So what type of connection do you expect them to have with these people when the only time you see them is behind thier sheild...I have to generalize but the people, "thugs" & "scum" are not the entirity of the problem. Offices should try being more personable for one. There is such a barrier between the people and the police in this city that I cant say it will every be broken. This is comming from a guy with 3 close friends on the force!!
